JOB SUMMARY:
The position of head of architecture is to lead the London office of a global design studio in either residential (tall towers), mixed-use, or hospitality across the EMEA region. The studio is a recognised global firm and has offices in all major international cities. The board has identified a need for new design leadership to join and be responsible for a sector, or across sectors to build their presence across the EMEA region. The studio demonstrates a considerable number of built and completed projects across the EMEA region.
The head of architecture will have responsibility for the P+L reporting to the C-suite and senior leadership team. The London studio currently has a team of 40 architects, globally they are 1600. The studio is open to sector generalists or specialists in residential (tall towers) or hospitality.
TASKS:
Business Development:
The head of architecture will be proactive with business development and the role will have other sector directors to support globally. The role will not be building from scratch however will support the studio's positioning and will be able to demonstrate winning work through pitching and innovative design ideas.
Profiles who have a network in the Middle East and prior experience in business development will be preferred. There is an expectation for the role to be a fee earner. If business development is an area you are confident with and haven’t yet had full exposure your profile will be considered. The studio is fortunate to have forged great contacts and a strong network and existing portfolio of work in hospitality, mixed-use, retail and residential through architecture and interior design.
Design:
The head of architecture is expected to have strong design capabilities and a portfolio to demonstrate this from world-class practices. The role will remain hands-on designing and drawing, suiting creatives who want to remain close to project briefs throughout all stages. The client is looking for rounded knowledge of design trends in the Middle East and to be a visionary design lead. Those who are able to inspire, influence clients and encourage their teams to enjoy a collaborative and supportive design process would fit this role.
The studio has a flat hierarchy and freedom in design, meaning there is no house style. The client is looking for a profile that will drive the look, feel and creative ambition of the client's look, feel and offering - suitable for profiles that have a strong sense of design ownership and authorship.
Leadership and Management:
The head of architecture will lead and manage a team - mentor, guide and nurture a happy environment for creativity. The studio is looking for good communicators who are able to create a safe environment where design can be critiqued and team members can be empowered. You will be required to lead by example and build and grow the team.

YOUR REQUIREMENTS:
Demonstrable experience should include at least 8-10 years in projects in the Middle East in either residential (tall towers), mixed-use, or hospitality. The client would like to see rounded profiles, experience running projects across all stages and have a clear understanding of the deliverables and financial accountability.
